Hellenistic astrology:
A MODERN REVIVAL FOR AN ANCIENT PRACTICE
Originating in Alexandria around 100 BCE, Hellenistic Astrology was practiced throughout the Mediterranean into the 7th Century CE. This form of astrology is the ancestor of modern Western astrology, and combines the traditions of the Greeks, Mesopotamians, and the Egyptians. The Hellenistic Astrologers placed great importance on the Ascendant to determine a vast portion of their interpretations, as well as utilizing other tools such as the hermetic lots, and synodic cycles of the planets. While Hellenistic Astrology is not by any means a new technique, its revival in the astrological community is a relatively recent phenomenon.
Due largely to the efforts of the late Robert H. Schmidt and Project Hindsight beginning in 1993, many of the remaining fragments and manuscripts we have from ancient astrologers such as Vettius Valens, Dorotheus of Sidon, Ptolemy, Hephaistio of Thebes, and many others have been translated from their various Greek, Latin, and Arabic texts into english. The translation of these many works have led to the reconstruction of their techniques, and authors such as Chris Brennan and Demetra George have presented them in a way that the astrological community can now apply to their practice. About the astrologer
Alexandar Nikolic, Certified Hellenistic Astrologer
I have been studying astrology since a very young age. Always fascinated by history, especially in regards to the esoteric and mystic, I study comparative Theology and Philosophy, from Taoism to Hermeticism. My joy of learning eventually lead me to Hellenistic Astrology, where I found a union of my love for all things ancient, and my love of astrology. I received my certification from the Chris Brennan Hellenistic Astrology program, and intend to pursue a degree in nondenominational Theology, where I can further my studies on ancient spirituality and cultures.
